Brazil’s Desenvix has borrowed $55m from the China Development Bank to build a 34MW wind farm project in Sergipe state. The project will use 23 1.5MW machines made by Sinovel. Recharge first revealed the Sinovel deal, the Chinese turbine-maker's first in Latin America, in September. The Barra dos Coqueiros wind farm will be built by Desenvix subsidiary company Energen. Desenvix won a contract to sell power from the project at Brazil’s first federal wind tender in 2009 at a rate of R$152/MWh ($87.2/MWh). The plant must come on line by July 2012. The vast majority of wind farm projects in Brazil are built with funding from Brazilian development bank BNDES. But in order to receive that finance, the machines must be mostly locally-built. Sinovel has confirmed that it plans to build a manufacturing facility in Brazil and is exploring suitable locations.
