Auto parts maker to expand downstate Marion plant

MARION, Ill. — A Japanese maker of auto components says its roughly $15 million planned expansion of a southern Illinois plant will add 80 jobs. Aisin Electronics Illinois joined regional officials in breaking ground this past week on the 108-square-foot Marion project the company expects to be completed early next year. With 236 workers in Marion, Aisin makes electronic control units and sensors for the automotive industry, including parts for Honda and Chrysler. The state is providing a $250,000 grant for the expansion.
