SKF Life Cycle Management facilitates growth for customers in the marine industry

Gothenburg, Sweden, 25 June 2013: SKF secured more than SEK 30 million in new orders from the marine sector. The orders demonstrate the complete spectrum of services within SKF’s life cycle management approach. The range of components that SKF manufactures for customers in the marine industry is diverse, drawing on knowledge across all five of its platforms – bearings, seals, lubrication systems, mechatronics, and services.

One of the orders that SKF has just won is for bearings, together with a lubrication solution, for a specialist marine engineering company. At the specification and design stages of the asset life cycle, SKF is now providing a custom-designed slewing bearing to a customer in Singapore, which will substantially increase the mean time between bearing failures.
Once the machinery is up and running, SKF provides solutions to minimise downtime and maximise productivity. It achieves this in part by supplying condition monitoring products and services and has recently secured several orders for these solutions in the marine industry.
In addition to products and solutions, SKF also provides training programs. It has just won an order to provide a structured training programme to a major Portuguese shipyard in order to develop its maintenance staff’s expertise in bearing technology.
