PTS director traveling to Italy to Meter Bearings

Eddie Jackson will leave for Italy this Sunday to visit with Vittorio Musso, owner of Meter Bearings. Meter Bearings has chosen Jackson’s Palmetto Training School to train employees for its new plant, set to open in Walterboro later this year. The company manufactures bearings and roller bearings for industrial and automotive applications such as power transmissions, geared motors, electric and hydromotors, hydraulic pumps, automation systems and material handling, agricultural machinery and forklift trucks. Musso and Jackson will meet for a week, discussing how the company manufactures its products and what skills and qualities it seeks in the approximately 50 people to be employed at the Walterboro plant. Jackson will then be able to custom-design a training program to have employees ready when the plant opens. “We do what industry wants to get people trained the way they want them trained — not using some canned curriculum. That way, they will hire our people,” Jackson said. Part of the training is making sure the students also get all the necessary certifications. This is the company’s first production facility in the U.S., and if all goes well, there is a possibility of more business coming Colleton County’s way, Jackson said.
