2006 First-Half Major Special Steel Mills Operation Analysis
First-half 29 major steel mills' operation results
1. Steel output mix:
Output of all steel products were 24.32 million tons, increased by 6.67% from last year. That of Common steel were 7.06 million tons, accounting for 29.03% of the total, seeing a decrease of 1.12%; high-quality steel were 9.77 million tons, taking up 40.17% of total, seeing an increase of 19%; for special steel those figures were 6.79 million tons, 27.92% of the total, increased by 8.81%; output of stainless steel were 700,000 tons, increased by 2.86%; alloy steel were 6.01 million tons, a rise of 14.14% compared with last year.
For the structural alloy steel, total output were 3.54 million tons, increased by 16.45% from last year. Output of the subclassification products are as following:

3. Steel export:
Steel bar: 171,346 tons
Steel coils: 87,611 tons
Ultra-thick steel sheet: 38,052 tons
Thick steel sheet: 153,334 tons
Steel sheet: 43,257 tons
Thin steel sheet: 117.747 tons
Steamless tube: 369,506 tons
4. Rate of profit:
The whole industry(average): 5.32%
The highest: 7.25%
The lowest: RMB32.24 million
In short, output of steel products are growing, products-mix are becoming more and more rational. Demand of steel products keep in a stable level, export increased greatly. However, the rate of profit of special steel enterprises has yet to be increased, efforts should be made to reduce production cost.
