Statistics of Taiwan Machine Tools Imp & Exp in First-half 2006 Taiwan Association of Machinery Industry source, Taiwan's machine tools export in the first half kept growing, totalling USD1.3659 billion, 6.9% higher than the corresponding period last year. Export of machining centers and CNC lathes increased by an amazing year-on-year 15% in particular. Meanwhile, machine tools import in Taiwan also tend to increase, with aggregate of USD876.20 million, 6.4% higher than last year. Of the imported machines, non-traditional machine tools is the most representative one with a year-on-year growth rate of 18.2%. As the largest export destination, mainland China and Hong Kong contribute USD515.93 million to Taiwan's export, accounting for 37.8% of Taiwan's total export, slightly increased by a year-on-year 0.4%. Following is US with USD145.41 million, taking up 10.6%, growing by 18.4%; and Turkey with USD69.30 million, accounting for 5.1%, declining by 4.3%. The 6 major exporters against Taiwan are Japan, US, Germany, South Korea, Switzerland, Mainland China, Hong Kong respectively. Their export against Taiwan account for 92% of the total. Japan's export against Taiwan were USD418.87 million, decreased by 11.0%, but still accounting for 47.8% of Taiwan's total import; US hit USD286.64 million, increased by 39.3%, accounting for 32.7%; Germany saw a growth rate of 27.3%; others were experienced export decline in varying extent.
