China-Made Extra Large Marine Crankshaft Rolled off Assembly Line

On May 11th, the first Wartsila marine diesel engine crankshaft with the largest cylinder bore in China rolled off the assembly line of Shanghai Marine Crankshaft Co., Ltd. The crankshaft is about 160 tons with the length of 11.5 meters, which is the “backbone” of the extra large marine engine. It is learned that as the key part of marine engine, crankshaft only could be produced in a few of countries with production capacity such as Japan, South Korea and Czech Republic. In 2005, Shanghai Marine Crankshaft Co., Ltd. Has produced the first localized crankshaft in China and achieved the breakthrough of “Zero” record of low speed crankshaft. Wartsila Group is one of the largest diesel engine designers. The cylinder bore of the crankshaft developed this time reaches 820mm; and the crankshaft will be installed in container ship manufactured by a domestic ship manufacturing enterprise, which can load 3100 containers.
