Goldwind Wins Again in South America with 34MW Chile Deal(pic)
Chinese turbine maker Goldwind is to supply 23 of its 1.5MW low-wind machines to a project in Chile, marking the company’s second deal in South America.
The 34.5MW contract is for the first phase of the Negrete wind farm, located near to Los Angeles city in central Chile .
The project is being developed by Ireland's Mainstream Renewable Power.
Goldwind is China’s second-largest turbine manufacturer and the first to achieve significant overseas orders.
In August, it signed a deal to supply a high-altitude wind farm in Ecuador, and has opened an office in the country to build sales in the wider region.
It has already worked with Mainstream on the Shady Oaks development in Illinois, US, which is Goldwind’s largest overseas project to date.
Goldwind is supplying wind farms in Ethiopia and Australia, currently under construction.
The company’s low-wind turbines are designed for annual average wind speeds of 6-8 metres per second.
It has already installed more than 600 of the machines, and claims that they have achieved an average availability rate of more than 99%.
