Five Chinese Buy-Taiwan Groups to Visit Taiwan This Year

To keep promoting Taiwan’s products to China, Taiwan External Trade Development Council (TAITRA), the government-backed trade promoter, is planning to invite five Chinese government-backed groups to make purchases in Taiwan this year, which are believed to focus on the purchases of auto parts, auto electronic items, machine tools, precision machinery, and LCD panels.
C.K. Wang, chairman of TAITRA, disclosed that Bai Weimin, secretary-general of mainland’s China Video Industry Association (CVIA), is slated to lead a delegation to Taiwan in June to buy electronic products and LCD panels, valued at US$4 billion or about NT$119.3 billion.
Wang indicated that last year Bai’s delegation purchased US$5.5 billion worth of electronic and related products; and this year the corresponding value is estimated to decline to US$4 billion, due mainly to the price drop of LCD panels amid steep competition.
In 2011 TAITRA organized seven trade shows in China, held respectively in Shanghai, Nanning of Guangxi, Chongqing of Sichuan, Tianjin, Hebei, Nanjing, and Shandong. It is reported that about 20,800 Taiwanese enterprises have benefited from the said seven shows.
This year TAITRA will organize five trade shows in China in addition to leading groups to attend more than 10 exhibitions there, which will include three shows held near the borders area, namely, China-ASEAN Exposition held in Nanning of Guangxi Province, China-Eurasia Expo in Urumqi of Xinjiang Province, and China Jilin-Northeast Asia Investment and Trade Expo in Changchun of Jilin Province.
Emerging markets are becoming more and more important. Last year Taiwan’s exports to such markets witnessed an annual growth of 23%, and accounted for over 25% of the total. Wang emphasized that TAITRA would keep helping Taiwanese enterprises explore such markets, and would also set up business centers in five emerging markets this year, namely Turkey, Mexico, Dubai, India and Brazil.
