Hydropower Steel with Highest Domestic Technology Requirement Appears in Baosteel

Recently, Baosteel successfully completes Hohhot Pumped Storage Power Station branch steel supplying task, with 100% of one time product performance pass rate.The product is the steel plate with highest domestic hydroelectric steel technology requirements and it is the first successful domestic production.According to user feedback, Baosteel product has good application results and the physical quality reaches the level of international advanced production plants' similar products.
Hohhot Pumped Storage Power Station is the first pumped storage power station in Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region and it is located in Daqing mountain area, about 20 km northeast of Hohhot.The total investment of the project is 5.6 billion yuan and designed annual generating capacity is 2 billion kwh After it is completed, it will effectively alleviate the peak shaving pressure of Inner Mongolia Power Grid inner thermal power units and can reduce energy consumption and pollution.
The steel branch for the water conveyance system is one of the key components of the pumped storage power station. Only two companies in the world were capable of producing that.For a long time, China's pumped storage power station steel branch 80 kg grade steel plate were dependent on imports.In order to reduce investment cost and ensure the delivery cycle, Three Gorges Corporation, as Hohhot Pumped Storage Power Station owner, began to seek domestic alternatives of steel branch. Baosteel accurately grasped market and policy trends and devoted into the steel branch development, processing and application in very earlystage and it had years of high-level heavy plate production practices.After learning this market information, it intervened early.During their visit to Baosteel,Three Gorges Corporation experts thinks that Baosteel's equipment and technical capacity can meet the production needs.
After the receipt of the order, in accordance with quality pre-planning ideas, Baosteel starts from the product service function，masters product fabrication and installation process and transforms user needs into product features.The product has stringent requirements on steel purity, NDT level, toughness, weldability, strength, etc.. Led by Baosteel manufacturing unit, steel mill, heavy plate branch and marketing system work together, expand the variety's thickness specifications and toughness from 100 mm to 140 mm, expand low temperature impact toughness from minus 40 degrees Celsius to minus 50 degrees Celsius and accomplish the user contract with quality and quantity
It is known that it is the first time that such products are produced in China. At present, Baosteel is working with the relevant design departments to standardize the application of the product and it provides the basis for future product development and comprehensive domestic replacement.The successful supply this time has also brought good radius effect. Up to now, there are many pumped storage power stations which intend to adopt Baosteel steel plate for substitution of imports in producing steel branch and achieve the localization of all steel branch material.
