Founded in 1933 in Dayton, Ohio, Apex has grown to become one of the world’s largest manufacturers of industrial fastener tools such as industrial-quality screwdriver bits, sockets, extensions, and adapters, as well as universal joints for aerospace and commercial applications. Like any other small manufacturer, Apex started with engineers pushing pencils across drawing boards. However, over the past eight decades Apex has grown with the demands of industry and the ever evolving use of technology and now uses 3-D modeling and Finite Element Analysis to develop and design new concepts in industrial fastener driving solutions.
Due to a constant focus on advanced engineering and product innovation, the company has been able to continuously launch industry-leading products. The Iron Band™ universal wrench was developed as a safety improvement to our standard industrial grade universal wrench product line. The U-Guard covered line of tools was developed to reduce customer product rework due to scratches or dents caused by the driving tools. It has since become the industry leading product and has been implemented in large assembly plants to mitigate safety issues by allowing the driving tools to spin freely inside the covers. Apex has developed combination sockets that will drive two different size fasteners with the same tool. This simplifies the assembly station by reducing the tools needed to do the job. Simplification of assembly stations also reduces tripping risks and safety concerns. These are just some of the innovations that Apex has developed over the years in response to our customer’s problems and needs.
To mark this significant event, the company held a “birthday party” of major proportions in Dayton, OH on November 14. Associates, retirees, sales reps, and even the Mayor of Dayton attended the celebration. Acknowledging the milestone event, Mike Renfro, Director of Operations in Dayton said: "Apex looks back today at an eventful 80-year journey, throughout which the company has contributed significantly to the advancements in the fastener tools industry. We take pride in our ability to solve our customers’ most difficult problems.”
Speaking on the occasion, Gary Leitzell, the Mayor of Dayton, commented: ““Congratulations and much appreciation to the Apex Tool Group for their service and quality work over the years. As a City, Dayton has changed many times since 1933. Manufacturing has also changed. When those changes can happen together and for the betterment of a region and an industry, we must celebrate the generations of employees that have served in that process.”
