Baosteel Developed the Alloy Tubes for 700℃ Ultra Supercritical Power Unit Successfully

Recently, Baosteel Special Steel has completed the production of the first batch of alloy tubes with small diameter applied in the high pressure boiler for 700℃ultra supercritical power unit. This batch of alloy pipes include three grades and three specifications, with a total of 7.1 tons; These tubes are to be delivered to Huaneng Group to manufacture a test platform to verificate and inspect the materials applied in 700℃ultra supercritical power unit. With the successful trial-manufacture, Baosteel takes the leading position in the field of research and development in the filed of alloy tubes applied in 700℃ultra supercritical pressure boiler in China, and it also can be classified into the first tier among the international competitors.
Coal-fired power plant is an integral part of China's electric power generation industry. To increase the conversion efficiency from coal to electricity is a substantial measure to deal with the climate change globally and to achieve the goal of energy saving and reduction of gas emission. Whether the 700℃ultra supercritical power unit can be manufactured successfully depends on developing the key technology of manufacturing the related alloy material applied in it; Therefore, developing the related alloy material is a key step to creating success. Steel Research Institute of Baosteel and Institute of Metal Research Chinese Academy of Sciences have studied on this techology for many years, with accumulated more than 200,000 hours for durability performance test, the longest durability testing time of the single sample is more than 11,000 hours.
In accordance with industrial production mode, the R & D team consists of Special Steel Technology Center of Baosteel Central Research Institute and the related Departments of Baosteel Special Steel had been researching and studing the key technologies of manufacturing such kind alloy tubes systematically in terms of smelting process, the forging process, extrusion tube-manufacturing process, cold process for alloy tubes, heat treatment process for alloy tubes. They have overcome a series of challenging technical problems, such as, precise control, hot extrusion alloy tube-manufacturing and cold processing, establishing the basic technology and process for industrial production, laying a solid foundation for R & D and manufacturing the high heat- resisting alloy tubes applied in 700℃ ultra supercritical boiler and above.
Now, Baosteel's R & D team is dedicated to develop the technologies of manufacturing those alloy tubes with larger diameter in 700℃ultra supercritical unit for the industrial trial-manufacturing, it is expected to complete the task within this year.
