I. Overall Situation By mid-August 2025, key steel enterprises produced a total of 21.15 million tons of crude steel, with an average daily output of 2.115 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 2.0%; 19.24 million tons of pig iron, with an average daily output of 1.924 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 0.5%; and 20.49 million tons of steel products, with an average daily output of 2.049 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 2.2% (see Table 1).

Based on this estimate, the daily crude steel output in China this week was 2.68 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 0.1% (see Figure 1); the daily pig iron output was 2.32 million tons, a month-on-month decrease of 0.7%; and the daily steel output was 4.17 million tons, a month-on-month increase of 1.0%.

II. Regional Situation (I) Crude Steel Production l In mid-August, among the six major regions, except for the Southwest region, where daily crude steel production by key statistical enterprises decreased compared to the previous ten days, all other regions saw increases to varying degrees (see Table 2 for details). Specifically: l Daily crude steel production in Northeast China increased by 1,000 tons (+0.2%), with the increase not exceeding 5%. l Daily crude steel production in North China increased by 19,000 tons (+2.6%), with the increase not exceeding 5%. Specifically, daily production in Hebei Province increased by 14,000 tons (+3.0%), in Shanxi Province by 7,000 tons (+5.5%), and in the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region by 3,000 tons (+5.0%). Furthermore, daily production in Tianjin decreased by 6,000 tons (-10.1%). l Daily crude steel production in East China increased by 14,000 tons (+2.4%), with the increase not exceeding 5%. Among them, daily output in Anhui Province increased by 7,000 tons (+11.7%), in Fujian Province by 4,000 tons (+7.8%), and in Zhejiang Province by 2,000 tons (+8.2%). Daily crude steel output in the Northwest region increased by 2,000 tons (+2.3%), with the increase not exceeding 5%. Daily crude steel output in the Central and Southern regions increased by 12,000 tons (+3.6%), with the increase not exceeding 5%. Among them, daily output in Henan Province increased by 12,000 tons (+20.8%), and in Guangxi Autonomous Region by 3,000 tons (+4.2%). Meanwhile, daily output in Hunan Province decreased by 3,000 tons (-5.2%). Daily crude steel output in the Southwest region decreased by 6,000 tons (-4.4%), with the decrease not exceeding 5%. Among them, daily crude steel output in Chongqing decreased by 7,000 tons (-28.1%).

(II) Pig Iron Production l In mid-August, among the six major regions, except for North China and Northwest China, where key statistical enterprises saw an increase in daily pig iron production compared to the previous ten days, and Central and South China, which remained essentially unchanged, all other regions experienced declines to varying degrees (see Table 3 for details). Specifically: l Daily pig iron production in Northeast China decreased by 2,000 tons (-1.0%), a decrease of less than 5%. l Daily pig iron production in East China decreased by 3,000 tons (-0.6%), a decrease of less than 5%. Specifically, Shanghai's daily production decreased by 5,000 tons (-12.0%); Zhejiang Province's daily production increased by 4,000 tons (+17.9%). l Daily pig iron production in Southwest China decreased by 2,000 tons (-2.2%), a decrease of less than 5%. Specifically, Chongqing's daily production decreased by 3,000 tons (-17.3%). l Daily pig iron production in North China increased by 16,000 tons (+2.3%), an increase of less than 5%. Hebei Province saw a daily output increase of 16,000 tons (+3.7%), and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region saw a daily output increase of 3,000 tons (+5.5%). Tianjin's daily output decreased by 5,000 tons (-8.1%). Northwest China's daily pig iron output increased by 1,000 tons (+1.4%), with the growth rate not exceeding 5%. Xinjiang Autonomous Region saw a daily output increase of 2,000 tons (+8.9%). Central and South China's daily pig iron output remained essentially unchanged compared to the previous ten days.

(III) Steel Production: In mid-August, with the exception of East China and Southwest China, where daily steel production at key statistical enterprises declined compared to the previous ten days, all other regions saw varying degrees of growth (see Table 4 for details). Specifically: Daily steel production in Northeast China increased by 14,000 tons (+8.1%), primarily driven by an 11,000-ton increase (+8.3%) in Liaoning Province. Daily steel production in North China increased by 67,000 tons (+9.4%), with Hebei Province increasing by 36,000 tons (+7.3%), Shanxi Province by 13,000 tons (+10.4%), Tianjin by 12,000 tons (+19.0%), and Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region by 7,000 tons (+15.5%). Daily steel production in Northwest China increased by 1,000 tons (+0.9%), with the increase not exceeding 5%. Daily steel production in Xinjiang Autonomous Region increased by 2,000 tons (+8.8%); in addition, daily steel production in Gansu Province decreased by 2,000 tons (-5.5%). Daily steel production in the Central and Southern regions increased by 16,000 tons (+5.1%), primarily due to increases of 6,000 tons (+9.6%) in Hubei Province, 5,000 tons (+6.6%) in Guangdong Province, and 3,000 tons (+5.2%) in Guangxi Autonomous Region. Daily steel production in the East China region decreased by 45,000 tons (-7.7%), primarily due to a 53,000-ton (-58.2%) decrease in Anhui Province; in addition, daily steel production in Shandong Province increased by 12,000 tons (+15.5%). Daily steel production in the Southwest region decreased by 9,000 tons (-7.4%), primarily due to a 9,000-ton (-39.9%) decrease in Chongqing.
