EDWARDS Breaks Ground on Semiconductor Vacuum Pump Remanufacturing Hub in Wuhan Optics Valley
Recently, EDWARDS, a global leader in vacuum pumps and exhaust gas treatment solutions, has settled in Optics Valley, Wuhan, to build a semiconductor vacuum pump remanufacturing base in Wuhan Future Science City, further improving the region's semiconductor industry chain.
Founded in 1919, EDWARDS was acquired by the Swedish Fortune 500 company Atlas Copco in 2014. Its core products are widely used in semiconductors, photovoltaics, flat panel displays, general industry, scientific research, and many other industries. Its vacuum pumps have long held a dominant global market share in the semiconductor field, reaching 80%.
Clean and controllable vacuum environments are essential in the manufacturing processes of semiconductors, optoelectronics, and biomedicine industries, creating a wide demand for vacuum pumps. Previously, EDWARDS had already established in-depth cooperation with Optics Valley companies such as Wuhan Xinxin and Tianma Microelectronics.
EDWARDS has signed a factory lease agreement with Optics Valley and is currently designing the interior decoration plan. Construction is about to begin and is expected to be operational in the second quarter of 2026.
Optics Valley, one of my country's four major integrated circuit industry bases, set its sights on the semiconductor track 20 years ago, focusing on the two major fields of memory chips and compound semiconductors. It has grown to include more than 300 chip-related companies, forming a complete industrial chain from chip design, materials, equipment to wafer manufacturing, packaging and testing. In 2024, the industry scale was nearly 80 billion yuan, and it is expected to exceed 100 billion yuan this year.
