FAG now also offers sealed angular contact ball bearings in standard and universal design
SCHWEINFURT, 22. August 2005. Enhanced performance and higher versatility – these are the characteristic advantages of FAG single row angular contact ball bearings. Designed in X-life quality, they are based on the well-established single row FAG standard angular contact ball bearings. The benefits for the customer are transparent. Thanks to a significantly improved honing procedure the surface roughness of the raceways and the resulting frictional moment were reduced by up to ten percent. This causes a more than 30-percent increase in the fatigue limiting load.
In addition the cage design was optimized and this has been verified in several series of tests. The contact area between ball and cage pocket was redesigned to ensure optimum contact and avoid cage pocket wear due to forward and backward ball drift. The optimized contact geometry leads to reduced friction, which again results in less grease stressing and lower energy consumption. Thanks to the reduced wear of the pressed steel cage, the grease contamination rate drops as well. Altogether this leads to a grease life which is extended by up to two hundred percent. Depending on the operating conditions, the new FAG single row angular contact ball bearings in X-life quality achieve up to 50 percent longer service life.
In addition to these features, FAG now also offers sealed angular contact ball bearings with a polyamide cage. The standard version of these bearings is sealed on both sides. Where special load carrying capacity, running accuracy and rigidity are called for, paired angular contact ball bearings of the universal design are used. These are sealed “only” on one side depending on the configuration (O arrangement or X arrangement). The main applications of these sealed, maintenance-free and easy-to-mount angular contact ball bearings with polyamide cage are pumps, compressors, blowers and machine tools, where the continuous operating temperature does not exceed 80 °C.

This is true in standard or universal designs including bearings with seals on one or both sides and pressed steel, polyamide or machined brass cages.
