On the cost side, the price support of raw materials such as scrap steel is limited, and the prices of mid to low end products are under pressure. As of now, the absolute price index of domestic bearing steel is 4822 yuan/ton, a decrease of 35 yuan/ton or 0.72% from the beginning of the month. Overall, it is expected that the market price of bearing steel will narrow in January.

Ⅰ Domestic production of bearing steel

1. Bearing steel production from January to November 2025: crude steel decreased year-on-year, steel increased year-on-year

According to statistics from the Special Steel Association, the crude steel production of bearing steel by major special steel enterprises in China from January to November 2025 was 4.435 million tons, a decrease of 4.11% compared to the same period last year; The production of bearing steel by major special steel enterprises in China from January to November 2025 was 4.088 million tons, an increase of 0.79% compared to the same period last year.

2. Bearing steel production in December 2025: decrease in steel production compared to the previous month

According to the 28 samples (7 new) collected by the Bearing Steel Research Group, the production of bearing steel by major special steel enterprises in China in December 2025 was 425700 tons. Among them, 324000 tons of rods accounted for 76.11%; 101700 tons of wire, accounting for 23.89%.

According to the research sample, the maintenance arrangements of some steel mills in December affected some production, resulting in a slight decrease of about 2.9% in bearing steel production compared to the previous month.

3. From January to November 2025, the output of finished materials of various bearing steel production enterprises: the total output of steel mills increased slightly

At present, the production enterprises with large output of bearing steel are CITIC Special Steel (Xingcheng Special Steel, Daye Special Steel, Qingdao Special Steel), Jiyuan Steel, and Juneng, accounting for 68.22% of the total output. The overall production of bearing steel increased slightly from January to November 2025, with production from steel mills such as CITIC, Jiangsu Yonggang, and Magang Special Steel increasing compared to the same period last year. Production from steel mills such as Juneng, Nangang, Zhongtian, Jianlong Beiman, and Shigang all decreased compared to the same period last year.

4. Price performance of domestic bearing steel market

In December, the market price of bearing steel was mainly characterized by "weak stability". From early to mid month, there was fierce competition for mid to low end products in cities such as Liaocheng and Wuxi. Steel resources such as Juneng and Xinji Ausen were abundant, and traders had a strong willingness to ship. However, despite the market having cost support and some entities having a willingness to raise prices, the price center has quietly shifted downward due to the pressure of weak actual transactions. After entering the second half of the year, some steel mills experienced high production costs due to low market prices, coupled with some steel mills choosing to temporarily shut down, easing market supply pressure and causing prices to slightly rebound by about 20-50 yuan. Overall, it is expected that the market price of bearing steel will continue to fluctuate narrowly in January.

1. Raw material prices

The 62% Australian flour forward price index is $106.75 per dry ton, a decrease of $0.75 per dry ton from the beginning of the month, a decrease of 0.7%. The current average price for December is 105.2 US dollars per ton. From the perspective of price differences, the 1/5 contract price difference for iron ore has been continuously shrinking this week, while the Mysteel 65% -62% index price difference has expanded to over $14 per dry ton. The price difference for medium and high quality products in ports has shrunk to a low point this year, and the price difference for medium and low quality products continues to shrink. On December 45, the arrival volume of iron ore at the port remained stable at 26 million tons per week, with a year-on-year increase of about 8.0%, while the daily average iron production of 247 steel mills nationwide has dropped to a relatively low level of 2.266 million tons. Against the backdrop of increased arrivals and declining demand, the inventory of iron ore at Port 45 has risen to 155 million tons, which is at a relatively high level in recent years. Looking ahead to next month, on the supply side, the global iron ore shipping volume will slightly decline compared to the previous period, and the arrival volume will slightly decrease compared to the previous period. On the demand side, the fluctuation of national molten iron production will narrow next week. On the inventory side, the iron ore inventory at Port 47 has accumulated month on month. In summary, mineral prices may continue to fluctuate at high levels next week.

The current spot price of high carbon ferrochrome is 8100 yuan/ton, a decrease of 100 yuan/ton or 1.23% from the beginning of the month. As of December 23, 2025, the spot price of high carbon ferrochrome has remained strong and stable, with coke and national freight prices remaining unchanged on a month on month basis. Chrome ore has slightly adjusted upwards, while the immediate cost of high carbon ferrochrome has increased. The market is highly cautious, and retail prices have slightly lowered their prices. It is expected that the short-term ferrochrome market will remain stable.

The current price of scrap steel is 2000 yuan/ton, a decrease of 60 yuan/ton or 2.91% from the beginning of the month. Overall, the policy has not shown any signs of movement, and the market trend has driven a return to fundamentals. In the off-season, terminal demand is facing a gradual decline, and steel mills' profits may be under pressure and backlog, resulting in passive or active production cuts. There is a short-term expectation of a decrease in scrap steel demand. Fortunately, the overall flow of scrap steel resources is shrinking synchronously, and the overall supply contradiction is not prominent. There is support and barriers under scrap steel, and the market is returning to a weak and volatile channel.

2. Downstream industry

In November 2025, China's automobile production and sales were 3.532 million and 3.429 million respectively, continuing the growth trend on the basis of a high base, with both month on month and year-on-year growth in production and sales. From January to November, the production and sales of automobiles reached 31.231 million and 31.127 million respectively, an increase of 11.9% and 11.4% year-on-year. The passenger car market is running steadily, while the commercial vehicle market continues to improve. According to Mysteel's research, there has been a slight increase in overall orders in the automotive industry. Currently, 80% of companies are still maintaining their previous status, with new order companies still focusing on new energy vehicles. From the perspective of products from newly ordered companies, the automotive industry also exhibits refined characteristics, with increasing demand for accessories such as car seats, new energy batteries, and car supports in recent times. The current increase in orders from automobile manufacturers is not significant, but the increase in orders for new energy micro cars is relatively high. Traditional consumers have a purchasing mentality of buying cars with a broad and large scale, but with the change of consumption habits, urban cars have become synonymous with buying groceries and commuting, which intuitively promotes the sales of micro car orders. Due to the adjustment of the new energy purchase tax reduction policy from "full exemption" to "halving" in 2026, and the uncertainty of whether the two new policies will continue next year, it is necessary to stimulate consumer demand for car purchases; Combined with the continuation of local subsidies and the impulse of manufacturers, they jointly promote the sustained growth of demand in the fourth quarter. Terminal sales in the market will continue to grow in December, and the automotive market will continue its peak season sales momentum. However, considering that policies may be re issued in January and some businesses may consider taking a vacation after New Year's Day, it is expected that automotive steel consumption will decline in January.

As the Lunar New Year approaches, market merchants may conduct small-scale restocking, forming a certain support for the market. However, there is still a portion of terminal demand that will shrink comprehensively as the Spring Festival approaches, and effective procurement demand is close to disappearing. The combination of the current high social and inventory levels means that a huge supply pressure will be concentrated and released after the holiday. Overall, it is expected that the price fluctuation will be limited, and the market price of bearing steel in January may mainly consolidate in a narrow range.
