In April 2026, Ansteel Group's Bayuquan production base achieved full-process operation of the world's first green electricity-to-hydrogen fluidized bed hydrogen ironmaking pilot line, stably producing green near-zero carbon direct reduced iron with a metallization rate of 95%, setting a new global benchmark for near-zero carbon ironmaking in the steel industry.
The project's most distinctive feature is its innovative adoption of a fully low-carbon process of "green electricity to hydrogen production—green hydrogen metallurgy." Relying on the new fluidized bed hydrogen iron reduction technology, it completely eliminates the coke consumption of traditional ironmaking. Hydrogen is produced by electrolyzing alkaline water with green electricity, and then used as a reducing agent to reduce iron ore, thus achieving ironmaking with only water discharge and zero carbon emissions.
The completion of this chain provides a "golden key" to unlocking green trade barriers for export-oriented downstream manufacturing industries facing international carbon tariffs (such as the EU's CBAM).
