Shaft Seals Score in Dry Bulk Process Equipment

Meco custom-engineered shaft seals have been found to increase MTBF by a factor of four or more over packed glands in dry bulk process equipment. Meco seals rotate on a plane perpendicular to the shaft, so there is no relative motion between the shaft and seal, thus no shaft abrasion damage. Meco seal faces are soft, fault-tolerant and almost impossible to break. All Meco seals are available fully split for quick installation and rebuilds, without removing bearings or drive.Seals accommodate 6mm or more total shaft runout/misalignment as well as shock loads and thermal shaft growth.These robust seals contain no internal springs to loosen, corrode or break.Gas barrier fluid flow rates are generally 5+/-5 litre/min. Meco seals are used on slow-turning, bulk processing equipment such as screw conveyors, mixers, blenders, dryers, rotary valves in all the process industries.Packed glands on this equipment tend to fail quickly, due to uneven compression caused by shaft rotation eccentricities or runout.Meco's solution is to work as a thrust bearing does to accommodate the motion of the shaft.
