Why SMEs in China Bearing Industry Facing Predicament

The production agglomeration of China bearing industry is not high. There are about 1,400 up-scale bearings enterprises, which mainly gather in Wafangdian in Liaoning Province, Luoyang, Zhejiang, Jiangsu and Shangdong,etc. Gradually the industry clusters have been formed: large and medium bearings are manufactured in Wafangdian region; miniature bearings are manufactured in Jiangsu and Zhejiang Provinces; in Luoyang, extra large bearings and bearings rollers are manufactured; and the bearing parts such as steel balls and cages,etc. are manufactured in Shandong Province. In the 1,400 bearing enterprises, except ZWZ, HRB, LYC, Wanxiang Qianchao, TMB and C&U,etc, the others are all small and medium enterprises(SMEs). In the period that the economy is developing fast, the enterprises are getting along well, from small to large, from weak to strong. However, in the beginning of 2008, the firestorm of global financial crisis has impacted the most of the bearing enterprises, especially those small and medium enterprises. There are several factors that bring the SMEs in China bearing industry into predicament. 1. The crisis from market 2. The pressure from market competitors 3. Continuously facing up the risk of the break of capital chain 4. The skilled manpower is in short supply 5. The technology is relatively laggard 6. The quality conscious is stupefied 7. The labour cost is increasing 8. The human resource is not steady 9. The price of raw material is fluctuating 10. The pressure from the fluctuation of exchange rate 11. Weak Management
