Glen Ellyn, IL—When Suzanne Richer, President, Customs & Trade Solutions, Inc., addressed attendees at the Bearing Specialists Association (BSA) 2010 Fall Meeting she pointed out that the bearing industry is very unusual in that it has no international trade imbalance – the U.S. exports and imports an equal amount of bearings.
Richer’s presentation on “International Trade Issues Affecting the Bearing Industry” went on to consider the factors and opportunities impacting customs and trade, as well as government programs that can facilitate customs transactions. In addition, she was able to communicate some of the expected changes in import/export transactions, as well as programs to more efficiently facilitate international trade. Richer is a licensed Customs Broker with over twenty five years in international supply chain management. She has served in the Ports of Detroit, Miami, Newark and Philadelphia. Richer has counseled corporations in the importation of Automotive Vehicles and Parts, Electronics, Wearing Apparel and Machinery, and has worked with clients during closing audits with U.S. Customs, assisted in programs such as C-TPAT at Tier 3 levels, and counseled on international trade law issues. Richer was recognized in 2006 by the Journal of Commerce as one of the top 20 Women in Transportation.
International trade is a key topic for BSA. The association recently embraced an anti-counterfeiting distributor partnership proposal from the American Bearing Manufacturers Association (ABMA). BSA’s opposition to counterfeit products is well-established. Its Top Ten program of reasons to buy products and services from authorized BSA member distributors was launched in 2007 to help distributors educate end users about the value of authorized distribution.
BSA is the “must belong to organization for authorized bearing distributors.” An international service and educational organization of distributors representing a total of almost 100 companies distributing factory-warranted ball-, roller-, and anti-friction bearings and invited manufacturers of bearings and related products, the association’s mission says, “BSA is the forum to enhance networking and knowledge sharing and promote the sale of bearings through authorized distributors.” For more information on BSA contact the BSA office at (630) 858-3838; fax (630) 790-3095; email info@bsahome.org or visit the association website at www.bsahome.org. ###
