After joining the WTO, the international and domestic markets become increasingly competitive for China’s electromechanical products. The pressing issues for domestic bearing market are making the bearing industry develop continuously in the intense market competition, improving product quality, developing potential markets, and increasing market share and competitiveness of bearing products in the international market. Japan is a manufacturing tycoon for precision bearings. It ranks in the front of the world in some aspects such as the product development, design and manufacturing, product quality and production equipment and so on. It is no doubt that the bearing companies in Japan have their own characteristics. The production of Japanese imported bearings has the following features:
The first feature is that they have advanced technology and equipments and the manufacturing level and the working efficiency are quite high. There are few workers in the production workshop; conversely, there are many equipments which are used for producing the products. Generally, one person can take charge of 1 to 2 production lines as to the standard bearings on large quantities.
A series of processing procedures like testing, cleaning, assembly, oiling all rely on the high precision and efficient automation equipment. Advanced processing and testing techniques such as adaptive grinding technology, online measurement techniques, fault diagnosis technology have been widely used which can improve the product quality and the working efficiency.
The second one is the creation of specialized production patterns and maintenance of good brand. Japanese bearing production process are mainly heat treatment, grinding process, the assembly process. All the rough process and parts are purchased. The specialized production pattern brings great benefits for the companies. Besides, companies promote the standardized global production base and keep the highest reliability. Both NSK and NTN are well known for the good quality of their bearing products.
The third one is that companies adjust the industrial structure to adapt to market demands. In the restructuring process, companies change the market strategies and adopt new ones. They try to expand the market for superior products, while shrink the market for weak products. Japanese enterprises attach importance to product development. They introduce the specialty products continuously to meet customers’ different requirements.
The fourth feature is that Japanese companies pay much attention to manufacturing technology and process development. Those enterprises have highly automated production and on-line automatic detection. The technical development departments emphasize on the development of the new products, at the same time, they all pay much attention to the innovation of production technology and process development so as to ensure the quality of all the products.
