(April 13, 2011) Schaeffler is competing in this year’s DTM with an Audi A4 DTM in a luminous yellow and striking green design. Both colors stand for the Schaeffler product brands LuK and INA, which also evoke memories of a motor sport tradition going back over many decades. Martin Tomczyk (29) will be at the wheel of the Schaeffler Audi. The driver from Rosenheim in Bavaria will receive backing as a brand representative for Schaeffler from Timo Scheider (32). The two-times DTM champion, who will also start for Audi, will wear the Schaeffler logo on his fireproof overall accordingly. “We are pleased to be brightening up race days with some fresh colors in the DTM this season,” says Dr. Juergen M. Geissinger, President and CEO of Schaeffler. “We are continuing our commitment to touring car sport in the DTM and with Audi. With the new sponsorship we are also raising public awareness of our company.” Schaeffler has been active in motor sport with its product brand Luk for the last two and a half decades. The commitment started with the Formula Ford series in middle of the eighties, in which, for example, Michael Schumacher also laid the foundation for his motor sport career. Schaeffler supported teams from Mercedes-Benz, BMW and Ford in the DTM (German Touring Car Championship) in the second half of the eighties. The colors yellow and green appeared together for the first time during this period. This was on the Audi models used by the SMS team, with which Armin Schwarz won the German Rally Championship in 1987 and 1988. Schaeffler has been racing with Audi in the DTM since 2006. And in 2011 Martin Tomczyk, with his attractively designed Schaeffler Audi A4 DTM, and Timo Scheider will be on the starting grid instead of the Audi drivers Mattias Ekström and Mike Rockenfeller, who represented the LuK and INA colors up to now. Martin Tomczyk will drive the Schaeffler Audi A4 in the 2011 DTM. Audi driver Armin Schwarz becomes the German Rally champion in 1987 and 1988. His Audi 200 and Audi Coupé (photo) are in the colors of the Schaeffler product brands LuK and INA. Peter Oberndorfer and Alpina – and also DTM teams from BMW, Ford und Mercedes-Benz – were among the Schaeffler brand representatives. The photo shows a racing scene from the 1988 season.
