(May 27, 2011) China’s Minister of Science and Technology, Professor Dr. Wan Gang, paid a visit to the Schaeffler Group's headquarters in Herzogenaurach on May 27 during his three-day tour of Germany. He was accompanied by a delegation of members of the Chinese government and embassy representatives as well as representatives from the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft. The guests were welcomed cordially by Maria Elizabeth Schaeffler, their son and supervisory board chairman Georg F.W. Schaeffler as well as the management. In addition to activities relating to renewable energies, Professor Dr. Wan Gang was able to gain an insight into the status of Schaeffler's developments in forward-looking sectors such as electric mobility. During the two-hour visit, Minister Wan Gang had the opportunity to learn about the performance capabilities of Schaeffler's ACTIVeDRIVE and Schaeffler Hybrid concept vehicles in particular. On a handling course built especially for the visit, Prof. Dr. Wan Gang and the delegation of government and embassy representatives were able to experience for themselves during test runs how far advanced Schaeffler's vehicles are. The eDifferential is only one of the innovations presented from Schaeffler relating to electric mobility in the ACTIVeDRIVE. It enables the drive torque to be controlled separately in each wheel. Two eDifferentials are used in the ACTIVeDRIVE. This means the concept vehicle is equipped with four-wheel drive and driving dynamics that are as yet unprecedented in electric vehicles. Professor Dr. Wan Gang, China’s Minister of Science and Technology, visited Schaeffler Group's headquarters in Herzogenaurach (m.). He was welcomed by Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, partner of the Schaeffler Group und Dr. Juergen M. Geissinger, President and CEO of Schaeffler (r.). The Schaeffler Hybrid is a "car full of ideas" that makes it possible to create and compare various hybrid configurations. Dr. Juergen M. Geissinger, President and CEO of Schaeffler, explained: "With our concept vehicles the ACTIVeDRIVE, the Schaeffler Hybrid, and the CO2ncept-10%, Schaeffler is proving its comprehensive expertise in energy-efficient solutions for all drive types – from all electric drives and hybrid solutions up to the optimization of the drive train with conventional internal combustion engines". He added: "In view of the growing demand from the Chinese vehicle industry for innovative suppliers, Minister Wan Gang's visit is a signal for the future. Our systems expertise in electric mobility makes our company an active partner in the shaping this sector." For Prof. Dr. Ing. Peter Gutzmer, Chief Technology Officer at Schaeffler, the work of innovative development partners for the successful future of electric mobility is remarkable: "It is important that future-oriented suppliers such as Schaeffler take an active part in shaping solutions for electric mobility of the future and create sustainability. Suppliers make an important contribution to issues such as innovation and progress that are also always associated with considerable investments." Professor Dr. Wan Gang, China’s Minister of Science and Technology (4th fr. r.), visited together with a delegation of members of the Chinese government Schaeffler Group's headquarters in Herzogenaurach. He was welcomed by Maria-Elisabeth Schaeffler, partner of the Schaeffler Group und Dr. Juergen M. Geissinger, President and CEO of Schaeffler (3rd fr. r.). Schaeffler set up operations in China in 1995 and currently employs around 5,000 people there. In addition to five manufacturing locations, Schaeffler has 19 sales offices in China and two new plants are currently being constructed.
