"In 2008, SKF South Africa took a strategic decision to restructure its South African retail network to fall in line with the SKF Group strategy to primarily serve its industrial end user customers through independent industrial distributors," explains BPS Bearings Managing Director, Peter Churchill.
"The main reasons for the restructuring is to improve service levels to customers and to provide them with black empowered supply channels for SKF products and services," continues Churchill.
BPS Bearings and Technology Solutions took over the existing SKF Branches in the Cape area in 2010 and today have two branches - one in Bellville and one in Saldanha - as well as a VMI Store on site with a large industrial end user.
Independent authorised distribution is nothing new for SKF in South Africa with current distributors being responsible for approximately half the industrial aftermarket representation. There is no real change to the way SKF operates as a company as their authorised distributors are very well integrated into the global SKF supply chain, SKF systems and business processes, and have the full support of the extensive SKF technical resources.
"SKF's authorised distributors are an extension of SKF; they are situated closer to the customer base, plan and manage stock more effectively and have the ability to service end users, meeting their demands for high quality, reliable products and services that add value and reduce total cost of ownership," states Churchill.
BPS has a very good track record as an authorised SKF Distributor, and actively sells all six SKF core technologies - bearings and units; seals; lubrication systems; power transmission; mechatronics; and services - and indeed the full SKF value proposition.
BPS is also certified to B-BBEE level 1, an upgrade from their previous Level 4 status and has a procurement recognition of 135%.
BPS believes that service excellence begins with competent and highly trained staff that is committed to meet customer requirements. They have highly skilled technicians who look after customer requirements in the Western Cape area and are responsible for all service and maintenance issues that cover laser alignment, balancing, vibration & oil analysis, mechanical fitting services, bearing inspections, etc. BPS also offers a 24 hour breakdown service to customers.
The local market can not only count on local knowledge, product and service excellence from BPS, but also on the added support of SKF's Application Engineering Department and Reliability Service Division.
