Bearing technology specialist, SKF's countrywide network of authorised independent distributors deliver complete product and service solutions to the customer's doorstep and Welkom-based Bearing & Engineering Distributors, a division of Bolt & Engineering Distributors Group, is no exception. SKF South Africa is entrenched as a trusted total solutions partner to Southern African industry through the supply of core technology products and services including bearings and units, seals, lubrication systems, power transmission, mechatronics, and mechanical and reliability engineering services. Four years ago SKF restructured its South African branches and established an authorised distributor network. In line with this ongoing strategic policy, the distributor network's geographical footprint is constantly expanding to bring added value to customers and end users across Southern Africa. Bolt & Engineering Distributors Group, established in 1983 with head office in Wadeville, Gauteng, supplies a wide range of products to the construction, mining and agricultural industries, supported by a network of ten branches located countrywide. Bolt & Engineering Distributor's Welkom branch was established in 1991 to supply the mining and agricultural sectors within a specific geographical footprint in the Free State. According to Bearing & Engineering Distributors Director, Dan Vermeulen, SKF and Bearing & Engineering Distributors have enjoyed a steadfast and successful five year business relationship. "We initially supplied SKF bearings to the mining industry but we now concentrate solely on providing SKF products to the farming community", explains Vermeulen. Vermeulen says that SKF has perfected its range of products over the years and have set a very high benchmark. "The proven quality of the SKF product range speaks for itself through tried and tested reliable performance on farming equipment and implements that operate in extremely adverse conditions". Farmers have a very small window period for soil preparation, sowing and harvesting. Unplanned down time can lead to crippling losses and therefore needs to be avoided at all cost. "There are a number of ways of safeguarding against down time and one successful way is to fit premium products that offer robust and reliable operation with no or minimum maintenance requirement", comments Vermeulen. He adds that SKF Agri Hubs are a prime example of extremely robust, maintenance free products that meet the demand for quality, reliability, productivity, cost reduction and environmental care in the agricultural industry". SKF Agri Hubs are fitted with a special seal that has been successfully tested under extreme dust and mud conditions and offer the ideal solution for disc harrows with independent discs. The hermetic sealing ensures that no lubricant loss will occur over the complete life span of this plug-and-play unit. The 'mud block' seal and special labyrinth, central to the sealing principle, provides dynamic sealing against stones, mud and dust. A special cup and O-ring system provides the static sealing of the disc side in the SKF Agri Hubs unit, making it impervious to dust or mud ingress. "In addition to SKF Agri-Hubs, we also supply all SKF bearings i.e. six-series and YET series to the agricultural, general engineering and industrial communities as well as to re-sellers in the Welkom and surrounding area", explains Philip Botha, Bearing and Engineering Distributors Manager - Bearing Division. "Our clients want value for their money and specifically ask for SKF products because they are fully aware of the quality and reliability that these products offer," says Anna-Marie Mc Cleeve, Internal Sales, Bearing & Engineering Distributors, Welkom. "Reliability and up time far outweigh price. Our customers are well informed and they are fully aware of the high costs related to down time. They know it is simply not worth taking the risk so they would rather buy quality which brings peace of mind". "With 21 years of service in the Welkom area, it is very important for us to keep a rewarding relationship with our clients and thanks to SKF, we have maintained a healthy, successful, growing business and continue to develop and add value to our customers," concludes Vermeulen.
