Anti-Counterfeiting Committee Promotes Awareness at Custom Seminars in Buffalo, NY and Toronto, ON

Earlier this month, ABMA President Scott Lynch along with Antun Peakovic, Associate General Counsel – Intellectual Property, The Schaeffler Group and Dan Szoch, Anti-Counterfeiting Global Program Manager, The Timken Company, headed North to meet with Customs Officials in Buffalo, NY and participate in a Canadian anti-counterfeiting conference in Toronto, Ontario. The training session in Buffalo was attended by more than 30 Customs Officials from Buffalo and Champlain, NY offices. This port was a focus for ABMA since it ranks in the top ten for imports of bearings in the United States. ABMA received excellent feedback on the presentation and both ports agreed to make bearings a priority item for the coming months.

During this trip, ABMA had the unique opportunity to attend the 17th Canadian Annual Anti-Counterfeiting and Fraud Conference hosted by Kestenberg Siegal Lipkus LLP, a law firm in Toronto focused on intellectual property rights. The conference brought brand owners and Canadian law enforcement together with representatives from the Royal Canadian Mounted Police, Toronto Police and the Canadian Border Service Agency among others. The conference was also attended by IP consultants and firms from Canada, US and Mexico. ABMA had a the great opportunity to exhibit at the event and received key contacts along with raising the awareness for counterfeit bearings in the Canadian marketplace.
