Lincoln County commissioners unanimously approved an industrial incentives grant for Timken Company during a meeting at the James W. Warren Citizens Center on Monday night. The grant will provide the county with 15 new high-paying jobs. The resolution calls for the county to provide Timken Company, located in Iron Station, with $39,430.33 in cash grants per year over the next five years, payable after Timken has made its yearly tax payment. In return, Timken will invest $12,388,000 in machinery and equipment . The company will hire at least 15 new people and offer weekly wages averaging $750. The resolution states that if Timken is unable to employ the expected number of jobs, the county can, at its discretion, reduce the amount of the grant by $1,000 per job shortfall. Timken is to begin installation of equipment and machinery expansion by no later than May 1. At Monday’s meeting, Lincoln County also became the last of 19 communities of the Catawba Wateree-Water Management Group to support the Catawba-Water River Basin and the CWWMG’s master plan. Commissioners voted 3-2 to approve, with wording change as suggested by the Lake Norman Marine Commission. The Marine Commission has previously voiced opposition to the master plan. The motion to approve was brought forth by commissioner Martin Oakes and seconded by commissioner Bill Beam and chairman Carrol Mitchem. Commissioners Alex Patton and Cecelia Martin voted in opposition. The board also unanimously approved a health benefits plan that will result in no cost increase. Commissioners approved sole source purchases for the wastewater treatment plant in the amount of $10,634 for ultraviolet monitoring systems from Dorsett Technologies and $4,160.12 for ultraviolet monitoring equipment from Xylem Products. Oakes was the only commissioner who voted in opposition. The board unanimously approved four planning board recommendations, three dealing with rezoning requests and one granting Lakeside Paint and Body, LLC a conditional use permit to sell vehicles in the General Industrial district. The commissioners recessed at the end of the meeting until April 28, when they will hold another budget work session at 8:30 a.m.
