The Timken Company (NYSE: TKR; www.timken.com), a global industrial leader in engineered bearings and power transmission products, announced that two of its engineers were recognized at the Society of Tribologists and Lubrication Engineers (STLE) Annual Meeting and Exhibition in Orlando, Fla this week. Ryan Evans, Ph.D., Timken director of research and development (R&D) since 2018, will serve a one-year term as the society’s president. In addition, the society presented Nikhil Londhe, Ph.D., who also works for Timken R&D, with an STLE Early Career Award for his outstanding tribology research contributions.

“Working at Timken, we have the opportunity every day to do meaningful and critical work that has a positive impact on people and industries alike,” said Evans, who joined the company more than 20 years ago. “I’m humbled and honored to lead STLE over the next year and share a perspective that’s informed by collaborating with customers across industries as well as my diverse and dedicated colleagues all around the world.”

As president, Evans will lead the society serving more than 13,000 professionals and 250 companies in the tribology and lubrication sector. STLE members are experts who research, develop and market the methods and products that make industry more successful. They include Londhe, who was honored for his research on how different manufacturing processes influence the texture of roller surfaces and hybrid bearing life.

“My research projects contribute to customer engineering and both product and process development initiatives,” said Londhe, who’s worked at Timken for nearly five years. “There is never a dull day on the job. I get to work on bearings and drives that are used in a number of critical applications, including wind turbines, satellites, industrial robotics, airplanes and more. Ultimately, my research helps improve the reliability of existing products and the development of new ones.”

Londhe was one of only four recipients of this year’s STLE Early Career Award. In addition to accepting the prestigious award, he delivered a presentation on his research at the annual meeting. In 2017, Londhe received STLE’s Walter D. Hodson Award from for the best research paper published in the Tribology Transactions Journal by a lead author under the age of 35.
