In the latest issue of AUTO ACTION, Andrew Clarke spoke with Triple Eight’s Technical Director Jeromy Moore about the Monday tech tests at The Bend to further iron out the Gen3 weaknesses.

The Monday after Kostecki’s romp at The Bend, some new components got a run around at the SA circuit, with the delicate steering rack one of the bigger talking points after yet another weekend of issues across the board, which was largely felt across all the garages.

In particular, T8’s Shane van Gisbergen went through no less than five steering racks, and the #1 garage even had to borrow one from PremiAir.

Moore tells Clarke that, “We’re trying to come up with a solution that’s better for everyone because I know it’s not just Shane having issues with it,”

Among the other components under the microscope were the front wheel bearings, and the brakes. But like everything mechanical, solutions are not always as clear cut as they might seem, with parts acting upon parts.

The Gen3 racers were still showing weaknesses at The Bend, with Shane van Gisbergen working his way through five steering racks over the weekend, but the master of the Gen3 technical package, Triple Eight’s Jeromy Moore, says the category is slowly fixing all the weaknesses in the car as he laments the need to test in public.

He said a test day at The Bend last Monday was going to test a few more things as the category worked on steering racks, wheel bearings and the brakes heading into the endurance races.

“We are testing more steering fixes tomorrow, I think there’s just a bit of variation in the racks,” he said, rejecting the humoured argument that van Gisbergen’s use of five racks over the weekend was just part of the testing process.

“There’s still a bit of water to go under a bridge there. We’re working with the suppliers to get them so they’re good enough and doing what they should do…
