New Patent from CRCC Heavy Industry: High Magnetic Field-Assisted Quenching Solves Heat Treatment Challenges for Large-Size Bearing Rollers
Recently, information released by the State Intellectual Property Office shows that China Railway Construction Heavy Industry Co., Ltd. submitted an invention patent (publication number: CN121780843A) in December 2025 entitled "A Method for Quenching and Strengthening Bearing Rollers Based on Strong Magnetic Field Control," aiming to optimize the heat treatment process for large-diameter high-carbon chromium bearing steel rollers.
Traditional heat treatment often faces technical bottlenecks when processing large-diameter rollers, such as insufficient hardenability across the entire cross-section, high residual austenite content, easy formation of troostite structure in the core, and high internal residual stress. To address these problems, this patent proposes a composite heat treatment scheme integrating strong magnetic field control.
The specific process includes: after pre-treating the roller blank, it is placed in a dedicated magnetic field heat treatment furnace, where magnetic field-assisted austenitization, martensitic pre-quenching, bainitic isothermal quenching, and tempering are performed sequentially. The key innovation lies in the phased introduction of magnetic fields of varying intensities and types during the martensitic-bainitic composite quenching and tempering process. The quenching stage employs multi-level magnetic field loading, while the tempering stage combines this with the synergistic effect of pulsed magnetic fields. This effectively improves the overall hardenability of the material, reduces the proportion of retained austenite, inhibits the formation of undesirable core structures, and alleviates internal stress.
This technology is expected to significantly improve the uniformity of mechanical properties and service reliability of large bearing rollers, providing a new technological pathway for the localization of key components in bearings used in high-end equipment.
